Camden County Awarded Georgia's Highest Honor
November 19, 2007 - The Camden County Solid Waste Authority has just received notice of an award from the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) - Georgia Chapter for Outstanding Landfill Operations for 2007. The Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) and the Construction & Demolition (C & D) landfills located on S.R. 110 in Woodbine, Georgia between the Satilla River and the St. Mary’s River were recognized as being the best in the state for excellence in operations, financial strength, resourcefulness and community involvement. Mr. Lannie Brant, Solid Waste Director, and Mr.Orville Saunders, Assistant Solid Waste Director, will be receiving the award given out at the SWANA-GA Chapter Annual Fall Conference in Savannah, GA. On November 29th. Under their direction, the landfill has scored over 95 percent in the Georgia Environmental Protection Division’s inspections over the last five years.
ACC Opens Knoxville Branch
November 5, 2007 - ACC is proud to announce the opening of a new branch office in Knoxville, Tennessee. The Knoxville office will be managed by Ms. Beth Headrick, a registered Professional Engineer and also a native of the Knoxville area. Ms. Headrick has several years of experience in general civil, solid waste, and water/wastewater engineering. She will be supported by Mr. Casey Wood who was most recently employed as an Assistant Town Engineer with the Town of Farragut. These two Knoxville office employees have worked together under a previous employer as have many of the ACC staff. The new west Knoxville office is located off the Cedar Bluff exit of I-40 at 9040 Executive Park Drive.
ACC Expands CQA Services Beyond Georgia's Borders
June 11, 2007 - ACC was recently selected on three CQA projects in Georgia's border-states South Carolina and Florida. The county of Greenville, South Carolina selected ACC to provide the construction quality assurance (CQA) services for both the closure of the Enoree Landfill and the construction of Cell 2 of the Twin Chimneys Landfill. These are the first CQA projects for ACC in the state of South Carolina. ACC also provided its first CQA services in the state of Florida for the HDPE liner installation at Waste Management's Springhill Landfill. These projects and recently completed CQA projects in North Carolina are examples of the firms rapid growth throughout the Southeast.
Landfills, Race Tracks, and ACC: A Winning Combination
December 1, 2006 - A great example of compatible adjacent land use is when a landfill and a race track are located next to each other. ACC has been privileged to work at two such sites where the race tracks have long and storied history with NASCAR. ACC provided construction documents and CQA services for the construction of a new cell at Allied Waste's Charlotte Motor Speedway Landfill. The speedway, now known as Lowe's Motor Speedway, is located next to this MSW landfill. ACC also provided consulting services at the Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, Georgia which is immediately adjacent to a C&D Landfill. Dixie Speedway is where Georgia NASCAR legend Bill Elliot began his career.
ACC Celebrates its First Year Anniversary
October 21, 2006 - ACC held its first employee recognition party at the Haynes Landing Club House on Friday, October 20th exactly one year to the day after the formation of the corporation in 2005. With great music from a live band, wonderful food, and plenty of friends and family present, ACC celebrated the accomplishments of its first year and each employee was recognized for their contribution. Each employee received an Inaugural Year Award.
ACC's President Publishes Article in Engineering Magazine
September 1, 2006 - ACC President Murray K. Griffin recently had an article titled "Solid Waste Disposal: Twenty Years After Lined Landfills" published in the August/September 2006 issue of the Georgia Engineer Magazine.
Live Oak Landfill Closure Project Featured in Magazine
September 1, 2006 - Closure of Waste Management's Live Oak Landfill was the subject of an article printed in the September 2006 issue of Atlanta Magazine. ACC is providing CQA services on this project which is the largest single landfill closure project constructed in the state of Georgia. ACC's senior technician, Joe Emmons was pictured in the article.
1st Annual ACC Family Picnic
June 16, 2006 - ACC held its 1st Annual Family Picnic at White Oak Farms in Social Circle, GA. We would like to thank everyone who helped make the Annual picnic such a great success. A special thanks to Charlie Jones, who allowed us the use of his beautiful farm. The event was attended by families of ACC, our IT consultant Decision Tree, and friends of ACC Director Charlie Jones. With great weather, good food and plenty of smiles to go around, the event reminds us of the many "good times" at the Jones' Farm and leaves us with anticipation of many more to come!
After An Extensive Search Its ACC
August 1, 2006 - The Laurens County Solid Waste Authority has selected ACC as their ”Solid Waste Engineer of Record” after an extensive search. Beginning in January 2006, Laurens County staff began searching for a comprehensive solid waste engineering firm to provide “one-stop shop” services for solid waste engineering and compliance assistance – their search concluded with the hiring of ACC in June 2006. ACC provides all of the services required by this forward thinking authority for their landfill located near Dublin, Georgia.
Houston County Selects ACC
August 1, 2006 - For the first time in over 15 years, Houston County, Georgia retained a new solid waste consultant to assist the County with their state of the art landfill operations. Public Works Director Tommy Stalnaker introduced Lesa and Murray Griffin, Chris Klamke, Robert Brown, and Joel Scott to his commissioners, landfill and public works staff at a cookout at the landfill on July 18, 3006. ACC staff prepared their trademark low country boil for their new clients. ACC’s initial assignment under this annual services contract was to assist with the design and procurement of two new scales and a canopy to cover their customers as they exit their trucks at the scale house.
ACC Sponsors SWANA Rodeo
August 1, 2006 - The 2006 Georgia Chapter SWANA Rodeo offered ACC an opportunity to support the company’s first client and an organization that has had much to do with the quality of our state’s solid waste facilities and professionals. Camden County, Georgia and Solid Waste Director Lannie Brant were the hosts for this years competition. ACC sponsored lunch and served the approximately 70 participants, guests, and workers their trademark low country boil. ACC Vice-President Joel Scott provided hours of service to the event and assisted in passing out the awards to the winners.
ACC Team Selected in Dougherty County
August 1, 2006 - The team of ACC, BMS Enterprises, Inc., (BMS), and Linda Graham and Associates (LGA) was awarded an annual indefinite delivery contract on by the Dougherty County Board of Commissioners. ACC personnel have provided services to Dougherty County for several years in the operation and maintenance of their active landfill gas extraction system; the demonstrated support and level of service provide by ACC staff was instrumental in the winning of this new expanded contract. Selecting the ACC, BMS, and LGA team allowed the county to support their Small Disadvantaged Business Program while providing the county’s solid waste management department with years of consulting experience from which to draw.
What Does ACC Stand For?
August 1, 2006 - ACC President/CEO Murray Griffin is often kidded about naming his firm ACC because of his devotion to his beloved Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets who play in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). While being interviewed for a multi-year indefinite delivery contract by yet another ACC (Athens-Clarke County) Mr. Griffin, who had providing consulting services to Athens for over 15 years while with another firm, ensured the Georgia Bulldog laden selection committee, that ACC stood for “Athens-Clarke’s Consultant”. Apparently the response was acceptable as ACC (the firm) and R. W. Beck was awarded contracts in July of 2006. The selection allows many ACC staff to renew their previous long term working relationships with the Athens-Clarke County staff.
ACC Hires On New Web Team
June 1, 2006 - With the hire of new web designers, Marcus Griffin and Krista Griffin, ACC plans to work as a team to bring ACC web support and communication up to speed. The new site will offer more than the previous site, including personal profiles, up to date news, a calendar of events, and a professional new look.
