The Values Behind the Work: What SOLID Means at ACC

Good work, done by good people, for the good of the environment.

At Atlantic Coast Consulting (ACC), technical expertise is essential to what we do. But how we put that expertise to work for our clients matters just as much.

Landfill owners and operators face ongoing demands, from maintaining regulatory compliance and managing daily operations to planning for future needs. They need experienced advisers who understand those responsibilities, communicate clearly and help them make informed decisions.

That's the thinking behind SOLID, the five core values that guide how we work, support one another and serve our clients.

S: Serve Others

Good service starts with understanding what someone needs.

For our clients, that means taking the time to understand their operations, their challenges, and what they’re trying to accomplish. That could be a county solid waste director managing compliance requirements, budgets, and community expectations at the same time. Or it might mean working with a private-sector client who may need technical guidance to keep an important project moving. No matter who our client is, we know our job is to understand those pressures and help clients work through them.

Serving others also means looking out for our colleagues. When people share knowledge, lend a hand, and work together, the entire team is better equipped to serve clients.

O: Openly Communicate

Clients shouldn’t have to wonder where things stand. Whether we’re discussing permit requirements, reporting sampling results, or addressing an unexpected field condition, clear communication matters.

That means asking questions, keeping people informed, and raising concerns early enough to act on them. It also means being willing to have difficult conversations when the situation calls for them. Open communication builds trust, and trust makes it easier to solve problems together.

L: Learn More

There is always something new to learn in environmental consulting. Regulations evolve, technology advances, and every project presents its own conditions. Staying effective means keeping up with those changes and learning from the work we do. At ACC, that includes investing in employee training, sharing technical knowledge, and encouraging people to develop their skills. For clients, that commitment matters because the advice they receive should reflect sound technical knowledge and an understanding of the challenges they’re facing today.

I: Inspire & Encourage

Good work takes a team, and strong teams don’t happen by accident. We want ACC to be a place where people can ask questions, share ideas, take on responsibility, and know that their colleagues will support them. That kind of culture matters to clients, too. Environmental projects often involve multiple disciplines, regulatory agencies, contractors, and other stakeholders. People need to communicate, coordinate, and work toward a common goal. Encouraging one another and recognizing individual contributions helps build the kind of team clients can depend on.

D: Do It Right

Our clients make important decisions based on the information and recommendations we provide. That responsibility is something we take seriously. Doing it right means paying attention to details, following through on commitments, and applying sound technical judgment. It means taking ownership when challenges arise and making sure the work meets the standards our clients expect. There are times when doing the right thing requires additional effort or a difficult conversation. We believe that effort is part of doing our job well.

What SOLID Means for Our Clients

Values mean the most when they show up in everyday work. At ACC, SOLID guides the way we approach projects, support our colleagues, and build relationships with clients. Those principles also support our Proven Process: Discover, Strategize, Execute and Sustain. We start by understanding the challenge, develop a practical plan, take responsibility for execution and remain available as our clients’ needs evolve.

The projects may differ, but our commitment to good work, clear communication and dependable service remains the same. That’s what we want people to experience when they work with ACC. And it’s what we expect of ourselves on every project.
